When it comes to Honing, we have the expertise and equipment to meet your specific requirements. Our Rotary Honing process is performed under an oil bath for maximum lubrication and heat control to yield the desired finish and diameter of:
- Broach Rings
- Bushings
- Compacting Dies
- Extrusion Dies
- Petrochemical Liners
- Much More
We also offer External Honing for workpieces with diameters up to 3.5”. We use super-abrasive films as fine as 1200 grit to produce finished to < 2 RMS µin (microinch) in the production of:
- Core Rods
- Plungers
- Rolls
- Other Components
Our External Honing capabilities produce improved circular conditions with ultimate precision to a maximum of 3” diameter.
As for Lapping and Polishing, our highly skilled craftspeople perform a wide range of Bench, Superfinishing and Rotary Flat Lapping operations that yield:
- Superior Surface Finishes
- Uniform Edge-to-Edge Flatness to millionths of an inch
- Precise Repeatability
With Superfinishing to < 1 RMS µin mirror finish for parts up to 10” diameter and 40” length, and Rotary Flat Lapping to within 1 light band or < 0.00001 inch, we can lap parts up to 12” diameter.

Outstanding Quality Assurance
While many of our competitors limit quality assurance (QA) to their inspection departments, we take a better approach. At Dura-Metal, we believe that QA starts before we receive the order and continues after we ship the product. Specifically, we perform visual and dimensional inspections on all incoming materials and check workpieces at every stage of production. We then follow up with customers regularly to make certain that our parts and tooling meet or exceed specifications.
